Heather Cerbone, Senior Vice President of Product Development and Design for the Men’s Polo Brand, came to the NYC studio to talk to us about her job and background. Cerbone graduated from Kent State with a degree in Fashion Merchandising so she was able to give us unique insight about how Kent’s fashion program prepares you for the industry. According to Heather, the fashion program (specifically the Merchandising program) did not fully prepare her for her career in product development. (She graduated several years ago so the curriculum is probably different now.) Most of what she learned came from on-the-job training. She said that product development crosses over more into the design side of fashion, but merchandising students can definitely be successful in segment of the field too! I was excited to see a Kent State Fashion School alumna doing so well. It gives me hope that I can also find success.
